A 21-year-old suspect has been detained in Phang Nga after the discovery of a woman’s body weighed down with concrete dumbbells near a local pier. Authorities are piecing together forensic evidence, CCTV footage and witness tips as they investigate what they describe as a deliberate and brutal attempt to conceal a killing.

Arrest in Phang-nga after chained body found at pier

Police in Phang Nga arrested a 21-year-old man following the discovery of a woman’s body on August 8 near Ban Tha Yai pier in Mueang district. Locals and fishermen reported spotting the corpse drifting close to shore; rescue teams and investigators responded after being alerted by members of the community.
Officers from Khok Kloi Police Station and the Phang Nga Provincial force led the initial response. The body was found with an iron chain wrapped around the neck attached to heavy concrete dumbbells, a method investigators say appears intended to keep the victim submerged and conceal the crime.

Victim identified as Ms. Kansiri, 51, from northeast

Forensic work and enquiries have identified the victim as Ms. Kansiri, a 51-year-old woman from northeastern Thailand who was reportedly working in Phuket. Authorities said she was wearing black shorts and a grey T‑shirt when found, and they estimate she had been dead for roughly two days before discovery.
Police have said strangulation is strongly suspected, though a full autopsy is under way to establish the definitive cause and whether she was alive when placed in the water. Local leaders and officials in neighbouring districts are checking missing‑person reports to assist identification and notify relatives.

Pickup truck seized while investigators hunt for motive

During raids connected to the probe, officers searched properties in Kathu District, Phuket, and Ban Kalai in Takua Thung District, Phang Nga, and seized a black Isuzu pickup truck registered in Phang Nga. Forensic teams are examining the vehicle for bloodstains and other traces that could link it to the crime.
Investigators have also reviewed CCTV footage showing a pickup travelling from Phuket toward Phang Nga and footage that appears to show a vehicle dumping a body near Tha Nun before returning to Phuket. The suspect has been brought to Khok Kloi Police Station for questioning while police continue to seek a motive and any connection between him and the victim.

Forensics probe and links to similar Rayong case

The victim’s remains were sent for a full post‑mortem; forensic teams will confirm the cause and timing of death and whether the weights were applied while she was alive. Police stress the importance of forensic evidence and public tips in building a case that can stand up in court, and have called on anyone with information to come forward.
Authorities note similarities to an earlier case in Rayong this year, when a decomposed body was found in a locked suitcase weighted with two 10‑kilogram dumbbells. While investigators are exploring any possible connections between cases, they say it is too early to draw firm links until forensic results and further enquiries are complete.

The arrest and ongoing searches have alarmed residents and prompted increased patrols around Ban Tha Yai pier and nearby waterways. Police say they will pursue all leads transparently and urge the public to report suspicious activity to help bring clarity and justice in this disturbing case.
