Nearly 20 foreigners reportedly attacked the owner of a motorcycle rental shop in Phuket and another Thai man after a dispute over a fine for damage to a rented vehicle. The altercation, captured on video and reported by local media, has prompted police to review security camera footage as the two victims recover in hospital.

Nearly 20 Foreigners Beat Thai Rental Shop Owner

According to Newshawk Phuket, the incident took place at about 9:30pm on Monday, August 11, and involved a large group of foreign nationals whose nationalities have not been disclosed. The confrontation began after one of the renters allegedly damaged a motorcycle and refused to pay the fine and compensation demanded by the shop owner.

Tensions escalated when the owner asked the group to wait for police to mediate, but an argument turned violent and several members of the group launched an attack. Witnesses said nearly 20 people were involved, and though some attempted to restrain their friends, the assault continued until the victims were forced to flee.

Assault Caught on Video in Patong Alleyway

Local media released footage of the incident showing a group of foreigners attacking two Thai men in the middle of an alley near Patong. The video reportedly captures the chaotic scenes, including attempts by a few of the assailants to stop the violence, which ultimately failed to prevent the beating.

One of the two men targeted is said to be the owner of the nearby motorcycle rental business; another Thai man intervened to help and was assaulted as well. The visual evidence has become central to the investigation and has spurred calls from residents for swift police action.

Two Thai Victims Hospitalised; Police Review Footage

Both victims were taken to Patong Hospital for treatment and are currently hospitalised, according to the report. After receiving medical attention, the two men filed a formal complaint at Patong Police Station, prompting an investigation into the incident.

Authorities are now reviewing security camera footage from the area to identify those involved and determine the sequence of events. Locals have urged law enforcement to act decisively to hold the suspects accountable and to prevent similar episodes from occurring in the tourist district.

The attack has raised concerns among residents and business owners in the area about safety and conflict resolution between tourists and locals. Police investigations continue as footage is examined and statements are collected to identify and prosecute those responsible.
