Knife attack sparks after exchanged glances
Police reported that a 40-year-old man, identified as Akhom, stabbed a 48-year-old outside a bank in Wat Kanlaya subdistrict, Thon Buri district, Bangkok. The incident started when Akhom, waiting to buy grilled chicken, became upset after a brief eye contact with the victim.
Attack with vendor’s knife
Witnesses said Akhom grabbed a knife from the chicken vendor nearby and stabbed the victim in the torso. During the assault, Akhom also sustained a serious cut to his right hand.
Bystanders intervene and police respond
Bystanders quickly subdued Akhom and held him until police arrived. Police Colonel Suraphat Rattanatraiwong of Buppharam Police Station confirmed the suspect was arrested on-site and charged with assault causing bodily and mental harm.
The victim was taken to the Naval Hospital for treatment, while Akhom was transferred to Taksin Hospital to receive care for his injured hand.
Investigation ongoing
Police have informed the suspect of his legal rights and continue to investigate the incident. So far, the attack appears to have stemmed from a minor dispute sparked by a glance while both men waited to buy grilled chicken.
