Mystery as Foreign Man Leaps from Bangkok Bridge Before Police

Shock on Sri Ayutthaya Road: Foreigner Jumps Before Police Eyes

Bangkok is left reeling after a dramatic and tragic scene unfolds in the heart of the city.

At 3:43pm, a foreign man, believed to be between 55 and 60, hurls himself from a pedestrian bridge on Sri Ayutthaya Road, Ratchathewi. Police from Phaya Thai Station are already on alert after warnings from motorbike taxi drivers and worried passers-by about a man behaving strangely on the bridge.

Desperate Rescue Efforts Fail to Stop the Fall

Emergency crews from Phaya Thai fire station, Bantadthong volunteers, and the Poh Teck Tung Foundation race to the scene, air cushions in hand.

But as officers try to calm him, the man suddenly leaps—crashing onto the busy road below. “We tried to talk him down,” one rescuer says, “but he jumped before we could reach him.”

Fight for Life at Phyathai 1 Hospital

The man loses consciousness instantly, suffering severe head injuries. Medics perform CPR right there on the asphalt, fighting for every second.

He is rushed to Phyathai 1 Hospital, where doctors immediately begin emergency surgery. His condition remains critical. “We’re doing everything we can,” a hospital spokesperson confirms.

No ID—Only Sandals and Elephant-Print Trousers

Police are left with a mystery. On the bridge, they find only a grey T-shirt and white sandals—no passport, no wallet, nothing to reveal his name or nationality.

At the time of the jump, the man wears only elephant-print trousers and socks. This unusual outfit may be the only clue to his identity. Witnesses recall seeing him acting oddly in the area earlier that afternoon.

Search for Answers as Traffic Chaos Unfolds

Officers scour missing persons databases and alert foreign embassies. The incident, unfolding at the busy Phaya Thai intersection, causes major traffic jams and shock among commuters.

“It was so sudden,” one bystander says. “Nobody knew what to do.”

Why Did He Jump? Police Appeal for Help

The reason for the man’s desperate act remains a mystery. Was it a mental health crisis, personal tragedy, or something else entirely? Investigators are exploring every possibility.

Thai authorities urge anyone who recognises the man or has information about him to contact Phaya Thai Police Station immediately. The city waits for answers—will someone come forward?
