Fifth Colours of Africa returns to Bangkok
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has announced that the fifth Colours of Africa event will take place on September 8 and 9 at CentralWorld. The festival is co-organised by the MFA, African embassies, honorary consulates, and private sector partners to celebrate growing relations between Thailand and African nations.
Africa’s importance for Thailand
Sasirit Tangulrat, Director-General of the MFA’s South Asian, Middle East, and Africa Department, underlined Africa’s significance for Thailand in terms of resources, trade, and development. She expressed hope that the festival would help Thai audiences better appreciate Africa’s economic and cultural potential.
Cultural showcases and performances
The opening ceremony is scheduled for Monday from 2.30 pm to 3.45 pm, featuring cultural showcases and live performances. Throughout the two days, visitors can enjoy African cuisine, handicrafts, cooking demonstrations, dance, and live music.
Focus on youth engagement
This year’s programme places special emphasis on young people. Activities for students include quizzes, art exhibitions, and public speaking contests aimed at strengthening cross-cultural understanding. Organisers stress that the festival seeks to go beyond entertainment by building long-term opportunities for learning and cooperation.
Voices from the African community
Moroccan Ambassador Abderrahim Rahhaly described the festival as a vibrant expression of Africa’s diversity and resilience.
“This event embodies the spirit of cooperation and mutual understanding by opening the door of cooperation and cultural exchange with our Thai friends,” he said.
Platform for cultural diplomacy and trade
Since its launch, the Colours of Africa has developed into a platform for cultural diplomacy, offering Thai audiences a window into Africa’s traditions and modern achievements. For African embassies in Bangkok, the event serves as an opportunity to present investment opportunities, strengthen bilateral ties, and promote awareness of Africa’s role in the global arena.
According to Bangkok Post, organisers hope this year’s edition will not only charm with vibrant performances and authentic flavours but also encourage deeper collaborations in trade, education, and sustainable development.
