Drunk Thai Army Colonel Crashes Car, Hurls Abuse at Police

Shocking Crash Leaves Biker Injured

A dramatic late-night crash has rocked Nakhon Ratchasima. On September 26, 2025, a Toyota Vios slammed into the back of a red Honda Wave on the busy approach road to Pak Chong District Office.

The biker, 31-year-old Mr Khanaphat, was thrown to the ground. He suffered injuries and was rushed to Pak Chong Nana Hospital by paramedics.

His motorcycle lay wrecked at the scene. But the real drama was only just beginning.

Colonel’s Outrage: Refuses Test, Insults Police

When police arrived, they quickly noticed the Toyota driver—an army officer—reeked of alcohol.

Asked to take a breath test at the station, the colonel flatly refused. Instead, he lashed out, cursing at officers and insisting, “I’ll take responsibility—without any test!”

Later, he half-heartedly tried the breathalyser, but deliberately failed to give a proper sample. Police say this is a common trick among drunk drivers in Thailand.

Rank Revealed as Friends Arrive

The officer’s true identity was only revealed when his friends turned up. He is a lieutenant colonel from a local military base.

Worried about possible trouble, police let him go home for the night. That decision sparked outrage in the local press and raised serious questions.

But public pressure mounted. On September 29, the colonel finally reported to investigators.

Facing Four Charges—and Army Discipline

Police Lieutenant Colonel Sirisan Chanthaphakdee confirms the officer now faces four charges:

  • Drunk driving
  • Reckless driving causing injury
  • Insulting a public official
  • Disobeying a lawful order

Under Thai law, refusing a breath test counts as proof of drunkenness. Police say the case file will be handed to prosecutors and the 21st Military District within a week.

Double Trouble: Criminal and Military Action

The colonel now faces not just criminal prosecution, but also strict army discipline.

Once the case is officially submitted, military authorities will act according to regulations.

This shocking case proves even senior officers can’t escape the law in Thailand—no matter how hard they try.
