PHATTHALUNG — A tragic accident late Thursday night claimed the life of a 30-year-old gas station employee, who was killed instantly when her motorcycle crashed into the rear of a parked trailer truck along Phetkasem Road.
The collision occurred around 10:45 p.m. on September 12 near Ban Somtree in Mueang District. Police, rescue volunteers, and hospital paramedics arrived at the scene to find the victim, Ms. Rungtawan from Na Thom subdistrict, lying in a pool of blood next to her red-and-black Honda Wave.
Nearby stood the truck — a Bangkok-registered tractor with a Songkhla-registered trailer — which had been left on the roadside without warning lights, according to witnesses. Heavy rain was falling at the time of the crash. Despite wearing a helmet, the woman suffered fatal injuries on impact.
Local residents who rushed to the scene voiced strong criticism, blaming the parked truck for reckless behavior. “They just stop without signals, without concern,” one witness said. Villagers pointed out that two other motorcyclists had already lost their lives in previous accidents at nearly the same spot.
The repeat tragedy has reignited anger over truckers using the stretch of road as an impromptu stop. Authorities have documented the incident and are investigating the driver’s responsibility, but locals fear the dangerous practice will continue unless stricter enforcement is introduced.
