Chonburi Buffalo Racing Festival Returns: Thailand’s Wildest Tradition

Chonburi Buffalo Racing Festival 2025: Tradition Meets Art

Thailand’s legendary Chonburi Buffalo Racing Festival returns on 6 October 2025, promising a spectacle like no other. The event, held in Chonburi province, draws thousands each year for its thrilling buffalo races, colourful parades, and unique cultural displays.

Mayor Ongart Prasertjit says, “This year’s festival will be unforgettable.” Visitors can expect several categories of buffalo racing, traditional beauty contests, and lively folk performances. The highlight for 2025? Twelve striking buffalo statues, crafted from plaster and painted by local schoolchildren, will be on display along Chonburi’s coastal promenade.

These vibrant artworks celebrate the famous Chonburi Viaduct and showcase the talent and pride of Chonburi’s youth. Organisers hope the statues become a new city landmark.

Parade Brings Chonburi’s Streets to Life

The festival kicks off with a grand parade led by Governor Naris Niramaiwong and Supinya Niramaiwong, president of the Chonburi Red Cross. Wittaya Khunpluem, head of the Chonburi Provincial Administrative Organization, joins district chiefs and local dignitaries.

The procession starts at Chonburi Provincial Hall and winds through the bustling Chonburi Market. Locals and tourists line the streets to watch traditional music, dance, and dazzling costumes fill the city with energy.

National Spotlight on Chonburi’s Iconic Event

Vice Prime Minister and Environment Minister Suchart Chomklin, a Chonburi native, officially opens the festival. His presence highlights the national importance of this event, which not only attracts visitors but also boosts the local economy.

The Chonburi Buffalo Racing Festival has been part of the region’s identity for generations. It preserves cherished traditions and provides vital income for local families.

Experience the Heart of Chonburi

Organisers invite everyone to join the festivities on 6 October 2025 in front of Chonburi City Hall, Mueang Chonburi—not Pattaya. From early morning, guests can watch the dramatic buffalo races, admire the student-painted statues, and soak up the unique spirit of Chonburi.

For many travellers, this festival is the highlight of their Thailand trip. “You won’t find a more authentic or lively celebration of Thai tradition anywhere else,” say regular visitors.

Why Chonburi’s Buffalo Racing Festival Stands Out

The Chonburi Buffalo Racing Festival is more than a sporting event. It’s a living museum of Thai culture, where past and present come together in a vibrant display.

Those who witness it never forget—and many return year after year. Will you be there to see it for yourself?
